Yoga in Costa Rica for Social & Inner Transformation is for people working and studying in the fields of Development and Peace, NGOs, Conflicts, Politics, etc. The course delves into the usage of a wide variety of yoga practices—stemming from the base of Hatha and Kundalini yoga through the many forms used today—for the purpose of social transformation. We will explore the question: How can yoga be used for peace and change? Yoga in Costa Rica for Social & Inner Transformation will focus on using yoga in the students’ work environments and global current affairs such as war, women’s rights, environmental security, poverty, and hunger.
A Unique Opportunity
Yoga in Costa Rica includes:
- Academic and non-academic readings on yoga
- Lecture/ discussion based on yoga sutras, yamas/ niyamas
- Practices based on o mantra (energetic sound)
- o pranayama (breathing)
- o mudra (hand posture)
- o asana (physical poses)
- and o dhyana (meditation).
Each student will also receive 1 private session, to look at his/her personal situation and work atmosphere to understand how yoga can be used for this purpose.

Enjoy the serenity of the Costa Rican mountain ranges with short hikes and yoga in natural surroundings. Take your time to explore the beautiful Costa Rican beaches while focusing on inner and world peace!
Accommodation: Samasati Nature Retreat – This amazing retreat is located on a 250 acre biological reserve overlooking the Caribbean. It is located about 230 miles south of San Jose. The retreat features yoga studios, Jacuzzi, sundeck, cocktail bar, an open air restaurant, and massage therapists on staff. Samasati offers plenty of activities for nature lovers, yogis, and anyone looking to relax in an exotic environment. Guests will also have access to in-house spa treatments. Two options of housing will be available-the Bungalow and Classic rooms.
Yoga in Costa Rica will be 5-6 hours a day for a total of 30 hours plus morning meditations. There will be opportunities to explore Costa Rica.
